Who's Who: Yung Nguyen

On any given day, Yung Nguyen, an employee at Berkeley's Natural Grocery Company on Gilman Street might be found stacking a pyramid of crisp green apples, unpacking perfectly ripe heirloom tomatoes, or offering a grateful tot a juicy wedge of mango.

Deceptively diminutive, Yung flies through the aisles like a dynamo, a whirling dervish of joyful enthusiasm whose wide smile welcomes the store’s patrons.

Jared Lempert, a Berkeley resident and faithful shopper at the Natural Grocery, said Yung is a helpful and genuinely sweet person. "Our whole family shops here partly because of the good vibe Yung always brings us," he said.

Yung loves Berkeley and said that the diversity of the people make it fun to come to work. She likes that people don't "judge by skin color" and look instead for "niceness and connection."
