Sunday Closures of Telegraph Begin with Hoolpa June 9

This Sunday, June 9, is the kick-off festival for "Sundays on Telegraph" – a weekly closure of three blocks of Berkeley's famous street every Sunday for the duration of the summer.

The Sunday closures of Telegraph Avenue in Berkeley begin this Sunday with a kick-off festival featuring live music by local musicians, restaurant seating in the street and a community wall painting.

"Sundays on Telegraph" – with three blocks closed to traffic between Durant and Dwight – will continue every Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. to Sept. 22. Each Sunday will include craft vendors, performers of different music genres and special offerings from local merchants, according to Mayor Tom Bates' office.

This Sunday's celebration includes an appearance by Bates and state Senator Loni Hancock joining in a "Paint Party" and contest sponsored by Annapurna of a 50-foot wall in front of the shop at 2416 Telegraph. The painting begins at 1:30 p.m.

Sundays on Telegraph is sponsored by Bates' office, the City of Berkeley and the Telegraph Business Improvement District.
