Chez Panisse: Berkeley Landmark Restaurant Back in Business

Chez Panisse celebrates its reopening after three months of closing due to a fire.

Chez Panisse owner and founder Alice Waters dined at her restaurant Monday night to celebrate the famous restaurant's reopening three months after a fire.

According to Jennifer Sherman, the general manager, the restaurant reopened "exactly when they expected," even though the fire damage was more extensive than first thought.

Although the porch and dining area were heavily damaged by the fire, the iconic entrance survived the fire unscathed.

On opening night, both the restaurant downstairs and the café upstairs were fully booked, up to a month in advance.
