Some dorm floors operate as theme houses. For student heads of household, the Smith-Fernwald and Albany Village complexes offer housing for about 1,000 families. For student and faculty families, the school offers about 280 child-care spaces in several locations. The university operates four all-you-can-eat dining commons near the dorms for students and staff. The office also provides rental listings for private off-campus housing, as well as help and advice for students who have never rented a place of their own before. Some of the dorms operate as budget hotels during the summer, a great way to visit the Bay Area at a low price.
