Waterside Workshops offers creative projects aimed to train kids ages 10 to 18 in vocational, organizational and retailMore skills, and also provides a positive social environment for them. Projects include learning how to fix bicycles, build your own bike or construct a wooden boat; by the end of the class, most students have accumulated enough work-trade hours to earn a free bike. The majority of participants are from low-income families; donations help keep these programs free so that cost is not an issue. Waterside also offers workshops teaching adults to fix and build bikes and runs Berkeley's only waterside coffee shop, whose profits contribute to funding the programs.
