Will these units be "affordable" as in affordable to those working minimum wage? TheRead More majority of local workers are making between $8-14 an hour. Do the math. The sensible old rubric was to not spend more than 1/4 of one's monthly income on housing to have money for decent food, savings, health care, to care for family, to spend within your community. This sounds like a wonderful project, but the word "affordable" must be attached to minimum wage. These are not separate issues, minimum wages & local housing affordable to someone making those wages (increasingly people who are trying to support themselves & often a family.) So many of the social programs funded by taxes are stretched because the cost of something as basic as housing is so expensive. This in turn has enormous practical effects on child supervision, stress, crime, time to positively participate in local community life.

Wow, look at the right wing steaming in here. Missing the point too. The problem is there aren't anyRead More liberal politicians, they are all right wing fundamentalist no holds barred send the jobs to China conservatives. Conservative used to mean careful and forward thinking, now it means asset stripping and any way to make a buck is fine so long as nobody else makes anything. What a sad state of affairs when nobody thinks anyone else is worthy of support. Funny thing is these so called conservatives are usually the poor people, misled and rabid supporters of their abusers.

How this turned into a gay agenda conversation I have no idea, but I will give my 2 cents since itRead More seems people are missing a bit of perspective. It is a civil rights issue. Our constitution is supposed to protect the rights of all people, including minorities. If you substituted the word gay for black in any of your posts, how would it sound? Don't tell me it is any different because it is not at all. We are talking about the equal rights of a minority group, all people in our society should be free from oppressive restrictions imposed by authority on one's way of life, behavior, or political views. Were African Americans being intolerant when they "whined" that they were not allowed to do many things, including interracial marriage? It is no different, it is people's rights in this free country. People are allowed to have their views, but if they conflict with the basic core that our country was founded on, freedom and liberty for ALL, then yes, that person should be labeled as intolerant of others civil rights. I hope you can understand that it is on a completely different level than calling a politician a name. It is not a liberal, gay agenda, it is an American one and I will stand up for any group that is being oppressed in our country based on race or in this case sexual orientation.

Can you tell me how in the world Mr. Yee's agreeing to smuggle in rocket launchers in for money wasRead More him doing something for free? Nothing like agreeing to help his buddies in the Phillipines raise money for their rebel army.

just look at the tax dollars that could come in . it would save money by letting the doctors let theRead More folks that need it get it . after all how many of those smart asses that say yes or no on this really know what this stuff does for the ones that need it ? how many of those dumb folks have a medical degree ? it would be better than putting everyone in jail

Yes, it would be horrible to put the Russian mob and Mexican cartel people in jail that areRead More bankrolling the pot clinics wouldn't it? Legalize it, but do it right. The current situation is a joke.
CBS News caught images of Yee being escorted into a federal courthouse on March 26, 2014 following his arrest on corruption charges.

yes but what is she doing now ? did she finish her rehab that she was doing ?
Nadja Adolf March 29, 2014 at 04:51 am
I don't think she was doing rehab, unless you call running for the district 10 senate seat a form ofRead More rehab. Meanwhile, with Yee out of the Secretary of State race, we could wind up with Alex Padilla. Padilla, of course, had a lobbyist illegally throw him a fundraiser and has refused to return the ill-gotten contributions. Padilla’s biggest claim to fame, however, is that he wants to pass a law allowing for the warrantless use of drones by law enforcement.

And mc, just because you have strong feelings, or have attended a lot of meetings, doesn't mean youRead More get to have your way. You hold a minority opinion. Candidates who championed your position were trounced in the last election, and the occupiers have managed to alienate most people who might have been sympathetic to their goals . So go ahead and put out your opinion, but don't be surprised if you are ignored, especially if you can't manage to be minimally civil.
Laney Russell March 14, 2014 at 08:11 pm
"Candidates who championed your position were trounced in the lastRead More election…"=======Indeed they were and here is a little refresher course for Maureen and her troublemaking friends: Peggy Thomsen - 4060, Peter Maas - 3156, Michael Barnes - 2966, Nick Pilch - 2908, Tod Abbot - 2552, Sheri Spellwoman - 1672, Ulan Mcknight - 1089.======== Don't forget that the two candidates at the very bottom had the momentum of their recent criminal activity on UC property to help boost their numbers though they did try to backtrack and whitewash their activity and allegiances once they finally realized they were not being met with a community of applause and open arms. Had they been completely honest about their OTF participation and their beliefs in general up till the end, they would have suffered a much worse beating at the polls.======= Maureen, I do disagree with those who say you should behave yourself at the meetings because even though are slow to catch on, and may never actually achieve a basic understanding of the detrimental consequences of your actions, it's obvious to me that every time you behave like a spoiled brat, you lose respect, you lose support and you win converts to the side opposite of yours which consists of sanity, reason and true community spirit.
dorthy manser March 15, 2014 at 04:22 pm
And that's exactly what is wrong with OTF, Transition Albany, Friends of the Farm, the RuckusRead More Society, Keep Albany Local, and the Berkeley academics who inspired this fiasco. They are so sure of their moral purity that they will stoop to any lie to get what they want. The fact that they would accuse of others of lying is hilarious. I can only hope that the next time they try one of their fake publicity stunt "direct actions", they end up paying a price for it. As in: a hefty fine for everyone involved, expulsion from the University for the pampered trust fund U.C. students, and a loss of tenure for the professors who put this all in motion. But don't hold your breath.
