Berkeley High is the only public high school in the city of Berkeley and enrolls about 3400 students in grades nine through twelve. With such a large student body, the school is able to offer a wide array of classes, from Spanish and Mandarin to dance and video to AP physics and math. A variety of sports, extracurricular activities, community service and youth development clubs are also available. The school features Small Learning Communities, which organize student academics into broad themes, including the environment and social justice, the arts, and an International Baccalaureate program.
