Last Week for 'Adventure Playground' on Weekdays

The end of summer vacation is nigh. This coming week marks the final week that the City of Berkeley's popular "Adventure Playground" at the Berkeley Marina will be open on weekdays. You can still visit on weekends after Aug. 16.

Yes, one sign of the approaching end of summer vacation is the final week of Berkeley's Adventure Playground being open Monday-Friday.

This coming week is the last for weekday hours at the kids facility at the Berkeley Marina and its popular zip line and build-your-own forts, boats or whatever with hammers and saws. After Friday, Aug. 16, it will be open only on weekends, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The City of Berkeley playground, started in 1979, is a one-of-its-kind operation that has attracted write-ups in several publications, including National GeographicNewsweekSan Francisco Chronicle, Boston Globe and Diablo Magazine.

It's free for individual families and adults accompanied by four or fewer children. Children under 7 years old "are welcome as long as they are within arms reach of a participating adult," the playground's website says.
