Family Ride to Pedal through Berkeley

The East Bay Bicycle Coalition invites families to get helmets, bikes and bells ready for a family ride through North Berkeley and Albany Sunday.

The five-mile tour begins at Memorial Park at Portland and Carmel avenues in Albany at 10:30 a.m. It wraps up at 1 p.m. at Aquatic Center -- of interest to those who would like to cap off a morning's ride with an afternoon of swimming.

Riders are advised to eat a hearty breakfast: The route encompasses a few short but steep hills. With a motto "No riders left behind," the coalition provides musical motivation but suggests participants bring snacks to share at the mid-point break.

Helmets are required for kids. Water and clothing (or sunscreen) appropriate to weather conditions is advised.
