Berkeley School Board President to Resign

Leah Wilson said her school board membership could create a potential conflict of interest with her new job as executive officer for Alameda County Superior Court.

Berkeley School Board President Leah Wilson announced Monday that she will resign from the board March 31 because of a potential conflict of interest with a new position, according to the Oakland Tribune.

Wilson was named last week as the new court executive officer for Alameda County Superior Court. She will start that job on April 15.

Wilson told the Tribune that her school board membership would let her know about any litigation coming to Superior Court and might " give litigants a feeling of potential bias."

The school board will decide at a special meeting Wednesday, March 20, on the process to replace Wilson.

Wednesday's public board session begins at 6:25 p.m. at the Berkeley Unified School District administration offices, 2020 Bonar St. It will be followed by a closed session to discussion legal issues, collective bargaining, personnel matters and the potential expulsion of a student.
