East Bay CNPS Plant Fair

The East Bay Chapter of the California Native Plant Society will hold its annual Plant Fair on Saturday, October 1, from 10 am to 3 pm, and on Sunday, October 2 from noon to 3 pm at Native Here Nursery, 101 Golf Course Road, Berkeley, in Tilden Park across from the entrance to the Tilden Golf Course.  20,000+ plants, including bulbs and ferns, will be offered for sale.  Vendors will display garden arts and crafts, jewelry and sculptures, rare seeds and bulbs, photographs, and hard-to-find books.  There will also be poster displays.

Each day we will present an outstanding speaker. 

Saturday, October 1 at 1 pm:  “Restoring a Native Garden Based on California Historical Ecology” – Laura Cunningham (artist, natural science illustrator, naturalist, and author of A State of Change:  Forgotten Landscapes of California ; www.a-state-of-change.com).

Sunday, October 2 at 1 pm:  “The Biggest Trees in the World:  The Phenomenal and Forgotten Stories of the Vanished Oakland, California Redwoods” – Richard Schwartz (local historian, storyteller, and author of Berkeley 1900:  Daily Life at the Turn of the Century; Eccentrics, Heroes, and Cutthroats of Old Berkley;Earthquake Exodus, 1906:  Berkeley Responds to the San Francisco Refugees;www.richardschwartz.info).

We are also holding two contests, for hats decorated with native plant materials and for potted plants.  Decorated hats may be brought to the fair, or decorated at an activity booth.  Native plants, potted in a container that can be hand carried, will also be judged.  Entries may be brought to the nursery during regular hours on Saturday, September 24, Friday, September 30, or Saturday, October 1.  The announcement of winners and awarding of prizes will take place on Sunday, October 2 at 2 pm.
