Cal Correction: Quarterback Sets School Record for Passing

A correction issued Sunday by the UC Berkeley athletics department for the previous day's football game stats means that freshman quarterback Jared Goff now holds the school record for single-game passing distance – 504 yards.

The UC Berkeley athletics department on Sunday issued a replay of the passing results from Saturday's football game and declared that freshman quarterback Jared Goff has set a new school record for passing – by one yard.

The stats released Saturday for the game – which the Cal Bears lost 44-22 to Washington State – said Goff had passed for 489 yards, certainly a respectable distance though not enough to beat the school record of 503 yards.

However, on Sunday, Cal said a 15-yard pass by Goff to Chris Harper had been incorrectly recorded as a 15-yard run by Harper. The yardage was added to Goff's passing total, giving him a 504-yard passing game – and the new record, Cal said.

"Goff surpasses Pat Barnes, who had held the record since Nov. 2, 1996, when he passed for 503 yards in a four-overtime win vs. Arizona," according to the correction from Cal Athletics.
