Berkeley High Baseball in The Playoffs

Berkeley High's varsity baseball team will play Logan High in the first round of playoffs on Wednesday at 7pm.

The Berkeley High School varsity baseball team has officially made it into postseason play, after getting an at-large berth in the NCS (north coast sectional) tournament that begins on Wednesday. The Yellowjackets, who are seeded 15th, will face a tough first round opponent on the road in No. 2 Logan High school from Union City.

Logan High had the most wins of any team in NCS play with an overall record of 20-4.  "James Logan is the No. 2 seed for good reason," said Berkeley manager Matt Bremer. "They have excellent pitching and are solid at the plate."

When asked about what Berkeley needed to do to get the win, Coach Bremmer said "The key will be to throw strikes and be aggressive with the bats. Their pitchers don't walk a lot of batters, so we have to be aggressive early in the count and be ready to take advantage of any mistakes they make out over the plate."

This Yellowjackets team has been tested this year playing the third-, fourth-, and fifth-ranked teams during the season, so this squad is no stranger to facing top tier talent. Berkeley High has been playing their best baseball of the season as of late, and as sports fans know, teams that are playing well going into postseason play are known to cause some upsets.

The game begins at 7pm at Logan High School, 1800 H Street, Union City, CA 94587.
