After 38 years in education, Berkeley Unified School District Superintendent William Huyett will retire on June 30, 2012.

Huyett, who began his career in 1974 as a high school math and physics teacher in Elk Grove, told immediate staff that he is "ready to pass the torch" and spend more time with his wife and family.

“I was drawn to Berkeley because I saw an opportunity to work on the achievement gap, " said Huyett, as quoted in a press release from BUSD. "With a committed Board, dedicated staff, an involved community and the 2020 Vision, much has been accomplished in the past four years."
