Register Now for Summer Writing Camp for Kids

Young Writers Camp is located in El Cerrito, Kensington, Berkeley, Oakland, Kentfield and San Ramon.

Are you one of those truly amazing third to ninth graders who simply love to write…or the parents of one?  Then you need to know about the Young Writers’ Summer Camps, now in their 18th season under the auspices of UC Berkeley’s famed Bay Area Writing Project...better known as BAWP.

If you live in El Cerrito, Kensington, Berkeley, Oakland, Kentfield, San Ramon or three locations in San Francisco, there’s a Young Writers Camp in your city.

Or if you are a teen age 14 to 17 with an itchy writing finger, there are Teen Creative Writing Camps in San Francisco and Berkeley, where you can take cool classes like “digital storytelling.”

These two- to three-week sessions are for students who enjoy writing and want to write better; they’re not for remedial writing. The camps offer kids a unique opportunity to develop their creative writing abilities in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.

Campers receive instruction, individual feedback – and lots of encouragement – from highly experienced classroom teachers who serve as BAWP Teacher-Consultants.

The first camp begins June 9 at the Francisco Middle School in San Francisco; others start through June and July. The cost is $550. And if you want to be eligible for a scholarship, act fast: the deadline for those applications is May first.  For more information and registration materials, go to bawpwritingcamp.org. Or call 510-642-0971 now.

If there’s a budding JK Rowling in your home, make this the summer that really gives them something to write home about!
