Cell Phone Safety Public Forum

Environmental Health Trust to Present at Berkeley, CA City Council Public Forum on Cell Phone Safety on November 8

EHT President Devra Davis, PhD and Prof. Stanton Glantz, PhD Among Speakers

A Berkeley, California City Council workshop will offer an educational forum for the public, city workers, medical practitioners, environmental groups, and other local city councils on the issues of cell safety and the dangers they pose.  The workshop will be held Tuesday, November 8 from 5:00-6:30pm at 2180 Milivia Street in Berkeley, California.  Admission is free.

Environmental Health Trust President Devra Davis, PhD, MPH will speak at the forum, as will University of California, San Francisco Professor Stanton Glantz, PhD.  Dr. Glantz is the director of the Center for Tobacco Control Research and Education.  In a new textbook on biostatistics in medicine, he concludes that microwave radiation from cell phones affect male reproductive health. He will discuss his new analysis in Biostatistics in Medicine (7th edition), showing that cellphone radiation damages sperm and male reproductive health.

Michael Altschul, the general counsel and senior vice president of the CTIA, the lobbying agency for the wireless industry, will also be presenting.

Dr. Davis will release an important new peer-reviewed report from Australian research team showing that children are imperiling their reproductive health in the ways that they are using celllphones (in their pockets). “Recent findings that the FCC standards for Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) are flawed in measuring the radiation that people absorb from cell phones and the announcement by the World Health Organization that cell phone radiation could have long-term health effects, have brought this issue to the forefront,” said Dr. Davis.  “We welcome forums such as the one being provided by the Berkeley City Council to educate all those who want to learn more about the problem and to debate possible solutions.”

About Environmental Health Trust

Environmental Health Trust (EHT) educates individuals, health professionals and communities about controllable environmental health risks and policy changes needed to reduce those risks. Current multi-media projects include: local and national campaigns to ban smoking and asbestos; working with international physician and worker safety groups to warn about the risks of inappropriate use of diagnostic radiation and cell phones, promoting research and awareness of environmental causes of breast cancer, and building environmental wellness programs in Wyoming and Pennsylvania to address the environmental impacts of energy development, the built environment and radon. EHT was created with the goal of promoting health and preventing disease one person, one community and one nation at a time. Capitalizing on growing public interest in Dr. Devra Lee Davis’s three popular books, When Smoke Ran Like Water, a National Book Award Finalist, The Secret History of the War on Cancer, and Disconnect--The Truth about Cell Phone Radiation, What Industry Has Done to Hide It and How to Protect Your Family, as well as recent documentary films, the foundation’s website offers clear, science-based information to prevent environmentally based disease and promote health, for the general public, children, and health professionals.
