Belly Dance Workshop

Acclaimed Berkeley dancer/teacher  and other guest teachers present an affordable ($20) day of workshops in Ras Sharki, Central Asian dance and related dance traditions. Admission entitles students to enjoy the next day's  at the same location for $5. Some belly dance experience is recommended to get the most out of this event.

Timeline of Egyptian Dance: This unique workshop weaves together technique and combinations that include the signature styles of famous Egyptian dancers. In this workshop, we'll channel Samia Gamal, Naima Akef, Fifi Abdo and Mona Said.

Persian dance can loosely be divided into two categories, classical and folk. Classical dance is inspired by Persian poetry and the highly detailed movements seen in Miniature artwork. Characteristic movements include intricate hand and arm movements, languid sweeping gestures, shoulder isolations, footwork patterns and spins. In this workshop we will focus on arm technique, footwork patterns, and numerous turning techniques, culminating in several short combinations/phrases

Phenomenal Abdominal Technique with Princess Farhana
It’s time to BELLY dance…this workshop will focus exclusively abdominal technique and core strength laying the foundation for truly incredible abdominal work. Learn how to flutter and achieve amazing belly rolls- we’ll drill rolls upwards, downwards and from side to side! You will also learn to LAYER your abdominal movements, like the amazing “flundulation”, a flutter layered over a belly roll; or combining abdominal work with figure eights and upper torso isolations. Also: stomach pops, many types of body waves and undulations, muscular and breathe control. Pretty soon you’ll be yellin’, “That’s Just How I Roll!” Class notes included.
