Candlelight Service to be Held for Cal Berkeley Football Player

The service will be held on Wednesday at the Lisa and Douglas Goldman Plaza from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. A memorial for Ted Agu will be held on a later date.

A candlelight service for Cal football player Ted Agu, who died at the end of a team workout on Friday, will be held on Wednesday night, University of California at Berkeley officials said today.

Agu, a 21-year-old junior defensive lineman from Bakersfield, was a public health major and was selected to the second team Pac-12 All-Academic squad last fall, university officials said.

The service will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Lisa and Douglas Goldman Plaza, adjacent to the Cal Memorial Stadium. University officials said the ceremony will be led by Agu's fraternity brothers at Omega Psi Phi and Cal student-athletes.

Gates 3 and 5 at the stadium will open at 6 p.m. on Wednesday and candles and special wristbands will be available to the first 1,000 people who come, university officials said.

A separate memorial service on campus will be held at a later date, with the details to be announced once they're finalized, university officials said.
