Berkeley Teacher of the Year in the Spotlight

Berkeley High School teacher Tamara Friedman, the 2013 Teacher of the Year in the Berkeley Unified School District, will be congratulated by the Alameda County Office of Education Superintendent Sheila Jordan at the high school on Friday.

The Berkeley school district's Teacher of Year, Tamara Friedman of Berkeley High, will be honored on Friday when the Alameda County Superintendent of Education visits the school to congratulate her.


Superintendent Sheila Jordan will visit Berkeley High at 10:30 a.m. to offer formal congratulations to Friedman, an English Language learners teacher, according to Meghan Laslocky, spokeswoman for the Alameda County Office of Education.

Also attending will be Principal Pasquale Escuderi and the Berkeley Unified School District's Assistant Superintendent for Educational Services, Neil Smith, said district spokesman Mark Coplan.

Friedman is one of 20 Teachers of the Year from school districts in Alameda County. Two will be named as County Teachers of the Year at an awards ceremony on Oct. 3 and represent the county in the statewide competition.
