Berkeley High Student Attends White House Science Fair

Berkeley High freshman Motayo "Tayo" Ogunmayin was invited to the White House Science Fair after winning a competition to design a "green bus."

Berkeley High freshman Motayo “Tayo” Ogunmayin just returned from the coolest science fair in the country — the White House Science Fair.

On Feb.7 and 8, President Barack Obama hosted the second annual White House Science Fair to celebrate the student winners of a broad range of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) competitions from across the country. The fair recognized over 100 students from more than 45 states, representing over 40 different competitions and organizations that work with students and inspire them to excel in STEM.

Ogunmayin, along with Eva Perez, from Envision High School in Oakland, were invited because of their work together with the nonprofit organization Girls Inc. The two won "Most Innovative Design" for a solar bus concept in an AC Transit competition for green solutions.
