Berkeley 8th Grader Wins State History Honor

An eighth grader at Ecole Bilingue school in Berkeley, Brianna Bourne, won third place honors in the middle-school history paper category in the 2013 California History Day contest.

Brianna Bourne, an 8th grader at Ecole Bilingue in Berkeley, took third-place honors in the history paper category of a statewide history contest.

Her paper, "The Birth Control Pill and Reform of Social Norms for American Women,"  placed third in the middle-school division of the 2013 California State History Day contest.

Her paper, which is attached to this article, traces the origin and impact of the birth control pill.

The school's middle school social studies teacher, Mark Lindberg, also was acknowledged on the winner's list.

Brianna plans to enter College Prep as a 9th grader in the fall.

Founded in 1977, Ecole Bilingue de Berkeley is a private, bilingual English-French school with 546 students in preschool through eighth grade.
