Adjusted API Scores, Rankings Released for Schools

The California Department of Education has released adjusted 2012 Academic Performance Index (API) scores for public schools. In Berkeley, Oxford Elementary ranked in the top 10 percent statewide, and three others in the top 20 percent.

The California Department of Education has released revised 2012 API scores for individual schools as well as rankings based on adjustments to the initial 2012 scores reported in October.

One Berkeley school, Oxford Elementary, was ranked in the top decile, or 10 percent, of schools statewide, and all of the city's schools, except Leconte Elementary and Berkeley High ranked in the top half.

Schools are ranked also with a cohort of 100 "similar" schools. The highest ranking Berkeley schools in their respective cohorts were Jefferson and Oxford elementary schools, ranking in the 10th decile, or top 10 percent. Three Berkeley schools – Berkeley High and Leconte and Washington elementary schools – ranked in the bottom 10 percent in their respective cohorts of similar schools.

Individual school scores were mostly unchanged from the results reported in October.

API (Academic Performance Index) scores – reported on a scale of 200 to 1,000 – are derived largely from the standardized STAR tests. High school scores also include the California High School Exit Examination (CAHSEE).

The list below shows the adjusted API scores and decile rankings released by the Department of Education on Friday. Click on an individual school to see more details of the results for that school:
