As President Barack Obama selects candidates for his cabinet in his second term, he will no doubt draw names from the highest rungs of the American Establishment. But what if he conducted a broader search; what if he considered city councilmembers and small business owners, not simply senators and CEOs? After all, there’s talent and experience outside the Beltway and Wall Street. It wasn’t that long ago that Obama himself was a mere community organizer in Chicago.
