Parking Meter Fees May Increase

Berkeley city council will consider a proposal to increase parking fees in some parts of downtown tonight.

Tonight the Berkeley city council will consider a recommendation to establish a premium parking zone in the downtown area with the highest intensity of use. This area would include approximately 750 parking spaces and be bounded by University Avenue, Bancroft Way, Oxford Avenue and Martin Luther King, Jr. Way.

The proposal would increase the hourly fee by 25¢ to $1.75 per hour at multi-space pay-and-display stations and could be effective as early as July 11, 2011.
