EDD Gives Agencies Grants for Vets
Studies show younger veterans especially in need of help finding training and jobs.
Two Bay Area organizations that provide military veterans with job training and employment services will receive a total of $1 million in grant money from the state Employment Development Department, according to EDD.
San Francisco-based Swords to Plowshares, which has been providing veterans with job resources for the past four decades, will receive a $500,000 grant from EDD. The Alameda branch of workforce training organization Innercity Services, Inc. is set to receive the same amount.
The two organizations were chosen along with eight similar organizations statewide to receive a total of $5 million in grant funding for programs designed to fit each veteran's career goals in industries ranging from health care and security to scientific and technical services, according to the EDD.

"As the men and women of our armed forced get their orders to return home, we should be ready to thank them and honor them with opportunities to smoothly transition into successful and productive civilian careers," said EDD Director Pam Harris. California is home to nearly 2 million veterans, and current studies show that young veterans are especially in need of employment assistance, according to the EDD.
