Berkeley Hosts Bay Area Foreclosure Prevention Workshop

The free event takes place at the Berkeley Public Library from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, with a host of experts on hand to provide advice.

A foreclosure prevention workshop and resource fair will be held at the Berkeley Public Library Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. (.)

The event, organized by the City of Berkeley's Rend Board Commissioner Igor Tregub, will bring together HUD-certified counselors, financial management nonprofit organizations, and elected officials to advise homeowners, landlords and tenants from across the Bay Area about how to prevent foreclosures.

The purpose of the prevention and resources workshop is to help "combat the alarming trend of foreclosures around the East Bay," by sharing information about "useful money management techniques," strategies to avoid foreclosure, refinancing options, and educating homeowners and tenants on their rights, according to the press release.

Homeowners will be able to speak with HUD-certified counselors about preventing foreclosure, and tenants will be given information about their rights should their rented accommodation be foreclosed upon. Elected officials on site will include representatives from the officies of Assemblymember Nancy Skinner and Alameda County District Attorney Nancy O'Malley. Participants will also have opportunities to meet one-on-one with HUD-certified counselors.
