BART Parking Fees Going Up At Berkeley Stations: Will It Discourage You From Riding The Trains?

The fee to park at the North Berkeley and Ashby BART stations is rising next month.

BART officials announced the fee will rise from $1 to $1.50 at the two Berkeley stations, beginning July 15.

The fee will also increase to $1.50 on that same day at the El Cerrito Plaza and the El Cerrito Del Norte stations.

A similar hike will occur on July 1 at stations in Castro Valley, Dublin and Pleasanton. On July 29, it will go up at the West Oakland and Macarthur stations. All of those stations will have $1.50 fees except for West Oakland, which will rise to $5.50.

Will the increase in parking fees discourage you from riding BART? Let us know in the comments section below.

BART officials say the fee increase is needed rehabilitate and modernize BART parking structures.

The transit system raises the fee by 50 cents every six months if the parking lot at a BART station is consistently full. If the lot is less than 95 percent full on average, the fee is decreased by 50 cents. The fee at stations, with the exception of West Oakland, will not rise above $3.
