Woman, Man Injured in Violent Armed Robbery South of Cal Campus

Victims suffered minor injuries in at least six robberies this past week in areas near the UC Berkeley campus.

A man and a woman suffered minor injuries shortly after midnight Saturday morning when they were attacked and robbed by two men armed with a gun in the south-of-campus area of Berkeley, according to UC Berkeley police.

The male victim was struck with a gun, and both victims sustained minor injuries, according to a campus police crime alert.

The pair were walking near Derby Street and Hillegass Avenue about 12:30 a.m., when the robbers approached them from behind, police said. The location is next to Willard Park, about three blocks southwest of high-rise dorms and the Clark Kerr Campus student-housing complex.

"One of the suspects pushed the female victim and grabbed her purse," police said. "The female victim turned around and noticed that one of the suspects had a gun. Both suspects began pushing the male victim in an attempt to take his property. One of the suspects struck the male victim with the gun and took his property." 

The robbers fled to a waiting brown or red vehicle and eluded a search by Berkeley police, campus police said.

Suspect #1 –  A Hispanic male in his early 20s, 5’7” in height, 175 lbs., wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and baggie jeans.

Suspect #2 – A Hispanic male in his early 20s, 5’7” in height, 175 lbs., wearing a light colored shirt, baggie jeans, and a gray beanie cap, armed with a gun.

It was at least the sixth robbery in areas near the campus within in a week in which the victims were physically assaulted. See also:
