Woman Arrested for Allegedly Stealing Tip Jar

Fast-acting Berkeley police this afternoon, Friday, arrested a woman who allegedly stole a tip jar a few minutes earlier from a business in the 1500 block of Shattuck Avenue, police said.

A 53-year-old Berkeley woman was arrested by Berkeley police shortly after noon today, Friday, for allegedly stealing a tip jar from a business in the 1500 block of Shattuck Avenue, police said.

The suspect, wearing a white t-shirt saying "Bail Bond," was arrested a block away on Milvia Street where three police cars had quickly converged to detain her.

The theft was reported to Berkeley police at 12:14 p.m., according to Officer Jennifer Coats. The woman was cuffed and undergoing questioning by officers on Milvia at 12:30 p.m. when a Patch reporter happened to pass by.

She was taken to the Berkeley city jail and booked on suspicion of theft, Coats said.
