Shortly before 4 p.m. yesterday, a minivan plowed through the plate glass window of a popular sushi restaurant at 1647 Solano Ave. in North Berkeley.
Two women eating at the window table in Sushi 29 sustained minor cuts from the shower of broken glass, but there were no serious injuries to customers or employees, manager Eddy Wong said. The crash occurred at 3:51 p.m., police say.
Accidents like this on Solano are rare but not unheard of, residents say.
"Maybe we should ask the city to put up some plants in concrete or cast stone planters on the sidewalk," Wong said.
"A few weeks ago a car went through the window of a nail salon further down on Solano," said Margaret Tong. "It actually went into the salon and damaged an interior wall."
