UC Berkeley Names New Police Chief

Margo Bennett, a UC Police captain who has been serving as interim chief, will head the department.

Margo Bennett has been named as the new chief of the University of California Police Department, campus officials announced Thursday.

Bennett has served as interim police chief since Dec. 30, when former Chief Mitch Celaya retired. She is a UC Police captain with more than 35 years of law enforcement experience, according to the announcement.

The UCPD serves the Berkeley campus and other UC-owned property, including Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, University Village in Albany and the Richmond Field Station.
