U.C. Police Advisory: Attempted Robbery on Channing

A man was almost robbed of his bicycle while standing outside of an apartment complex on Channing Way.

 

A U.C. Berkeley student was nearly robbed of his bicycle as he stood outside of a Berkeley apartment complex last week.

At about 7 p.m. on Tuesday, the man flagged down a University of California Berkeley Police officer and reported the attempted robbery, which happened two hours prior, according to a University of California Berkeley Police Department report.

The 20-year-old male victim was standing on the sidewalk in front of the Channing-Bowditch Apartment Complex with his bicycle, when he saw a group of people walking on the other side of the street. According to the police report, a male member of the group approached the victim and asked him for a cigarette.  The victim complied and group member left the area. He returned about 10 minutes later with another man.  

The two men talked to the victim in a threatening way and asked the victim to give him his bike, the report said. The victim was able to get away with bicycle. The two suspects left the area in an unknown direction.

U.C. Berkeley police describe the suspects as:

Suspect 1:Hispanic male in his 20s, 6 feet tall, thin build, medium
dark colored hair that was combed back, wearing a white colored sports
jersey with no writing or numbers on it, over sized/long blue denim
shorts, and dark colored shoes.

Suspect 2: There is no description at this time.
