Truck Lofts Smoke Over I-80 in Berkeley

A pick-up truck that apparently caught fire on Interstate 80 this afternoon, Saturday, sent a plume of smoke into the air where it stopped at the pedestrian/bike bridge over the freeway in Berkeley. No one was hurt, the CHP said.

A pick-up truck apparently caught fire shortly after noon while going westbound on Interstate 80 today, Saturday, and spewed smoke from where it stopped at Berkeley's bike/pedestrian bridge over the freeway.

The California Highway Patrol said the truck driver phoned in the disabled vehicle and requested a tow truck at 12:23 p.m.

Smoke filled the truck but the driver apparently suffered no injuries, a CHP representative said.
