Suspects Arrested in Connection with Battery Case Near People's Park

Three males were arrested in connection with a May 29, 2011 attack in Berkeley.

On Sunday, May 29, 2011 at 2:16 p.m., a non-affiliated 22 year old White male was the victim of battery and the display of an imitation firearm by the suspect.  The victim was at the corner of Haste and Telegraph when he was approached by an adult male and two juvenile males who yelled a racial slur at him.  They surrounded the victim with raised fists.  The victim escaped the group and ran towards People’s Park.  As the victim ran away the adult male suspect used a “bb” gun to shoot the victim in the back three times.  The suspect and the juveniles were last seen walking east on Dwight Way. and responded to the area and detained three individuals matching the description of the suspects.  They were positively identified by witnesses and taken into custody.  The victim was
not injured during the encounter.

The suspects arrested are:

Suspect #1 - ALI, Michael-James Kifayat, an unknown ethnicity male, 22
years of age, 5’05” in height, 200 lbs., with black hair, brown eyes.

Suspect #2 – An unknown ethnicity male, 16 years of age, 5’10” in height,
190 lbs., with black hair and eyes.

Suspect #3 – A Hispanic male, 17 years of age, 5’05” in height, 150 lbs.,
with black hair and brown eyes.
