Police Seek Public's Help Following Indecent Exposure Arrest

If you or your child has been a victim of indecent exposure, the Berkeley Police Department would like to hear from you.

From a Berkeley Police Departent press release:

The City of Berkeley Police Department (BPD) is seeking the community’s help following the arrest of a suspect for indecent exposure involving two juvenile victims. Investigators believe there may have been additional unreported incidents and is requesting that any other possible victims come forward to report the incidents.

On April 23, 2013, at approximately 3:53 PM, BPD officers were called to the area of Bancroft Way and California Street following a report from two Berkeley High students who had encountered the suspect. The students reported a male masturbating in his vehicle. The suspect stopped his vehicle directly in front of the victims and exposed himself. Officers searched the area and detained a man fitting the suspect’s description three blocks from the scene of the crime. This suspect was arrested and charged with indecent exposure and a probation violation.

Through the ensuing investigation, BPD detectives determined the suspect may have committed additional offenses involving other victims. BPD investigators are asking anyone who has been a victim, or whose children may have been a victim, to call the Berkeley Police Department. In order to maintain the integrity of the investigation, BPD is not yet releasing the identity or specific description of the suspect or suspect vehicle at this time. Any similar incident of indecent exposure should be reported.

Anyone who has been the victim or witness to a similar incident in the recent past is asked to call the BPD Sex Crimes Detail at (510) 981-5735, or the 24 hour BPD non-emergency number at (510) 981-5900. If a person wishes to remain anonymous, they can call the Bay Area Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS (8477).
