Police Searching for Gun-Wielding Carjacking Suspect

-By Bay City News

Police are attempting to locate a man who pulled a gun on a fellow motorist on Interstate Highway 80 in Richmond Wednesday morning, then crashed and
stole another vehicle at gunpoint to get away, a police sergeant said. The man was last seen driving a stolen Mercedes near the Gilman Street exit in Berkeley.

Around 8 a.m., police received reports of a man brandishing a handgun at another driver on westbound Highway 80, Sgt. Nicole Abetkov said.

The suspect, who was accompanied by a woman, then sped off the freeway at the Central Avenue exit and crashed into the back of a tanker truck on Jacuzzi Street, Abetkov said.

After the crash, the pair fled on foot and the man carjacked a Mercedes sedan. The woman was taken into custody a short time later and was identified by a witness, the sergeant said. No injuries were reported.

Abetkov said the man was last seen driving the Mercedes west on Highway 80 near the Gilman Street exit in Berkeley.

The suspect is described only as a white man in his 30s with multiple tattoos on his arms, the sergeant said. No further suspect or vehicle description was available.
