Someone with a vicious dog had a standoff with police - I can't find the story right now but read it somewhere.

It was a guy who has been annoying in the past who was observed spray painting on Shattuck. When cops stopped him to arrest him, he backed into a space near the old UC Theater and put his dog in front of him to hold off the cops. Cops (to their credit) used their trained negotiators to get him to surrender. His dog was left in the custody of a friend. Would be great if, instead of spending money on a military vehicle for the BPD, they instead trained more officers in negotiating skills! Much more peaceful, much cheaper in the long run.
