Police Log, July 1-5: Officers Arrive, Suspects Vanish

A sampling of calls handled by the Berkeley Police Department.

The incidents are calls for police services only and are subject to review and reclassification by supervisors, detectives and the district as appropriate.

Sunday, July 1

9:42 a.m. – An armed robbery was reported on the 1500 block of Milvia Street after a man brandishing a gun approached a pedestrian and demanded his belongings, then fled on foot. The suspect is described as a black man 25 to 30 years old, 6 feet tall, 240 lbs. with short black hair and wearing a baby blue long-sleeved shirt and khaki pants and carrying a black backpack.

Sometime between 1:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. – The forced entry of a car on the 1800 block of Francisco Street and theft of electronics was reported.

6:30 p.m. -- Officers responded to a report of loud noises at San Pablo Park. Officers arrived in the area and determined the noise was caused by fireworks.

9:56 p.m. – Two individuals were spotted spray painting the side of a business on the 2200 block of Dwight Way.

Monday, July 2

7 a.m. – A man reported vandalism to his vehicle in a parking lot on the 1900 block of San Pablo Avenue when he found his tires had been slashed.

4:55 p.m. – A window-smash auto burglary was reported on the 1600 block of Shattuck Avenue. an auto burglary occurred in the 1600 block of Shattuck Avenue. The suspect fled the area, possibly in a green van. The suspects are described as a white youth, about 17 years old, 5 feet, 8 inches tall with a medium build and wearing a black hat and a black hooded sweatshirt; and a black man about 20 years old.

9:38 p.m. -- A noise disturbance was reported in the 2900 block of Mabel Street with a group noisily playing basketball in the street.  The group was gone when officers arrived on scene.

Tuesday, July 3

4:45 p.m. – A woman reported that the catalytic converter had been stolen from her vehicle on the 2900 block of Acton Street.

5:45 p.m. – A woman reported the theft several items from her parked car near the intersection of Derby and Hillegass streets.

Wednesday, July 4

4:52 a.m. – A resident complained of a loud party on the 2400 block of Dwight Way. The party was deemed to be a nuisance, so officers shut it down.

1 p.m. -- A residential burglary and the theft of cash and personal items was reported on the 1700 block of Stuart Street was reported,

7:38 p.m. -- A resident on the 400 block of Spruce Street reported a burglary in the garage, with the unknown suspect having prowled the interior of the garage as well as the victim’s vehicles. 

Thursday, July 5

5:37 a.m. – Officers responded to a report of an audible alarm on the 2600 block of Claremont Avenue.and discovered a burglary had occurred.

7:15 p.m. -- Officers responded to a report of a group fighting on the 1600 block of Russell Street but could not find the combatants.
