Police Arrest Oakland Boy for Allegedly Robbing Woman of Cellphone

The victim chased the suspect and police arrested him near the intersection of Durant Avenue and Fulton Street.

Police arrested an Oakland boy for allegedly robbing a woman near University of California at Berkeley on Thursday afternoon.

At about 4:20 p.m. on Thursday, police received a report of a strong-arm robbery near the intersection of Channing Way and Atherton Street, located about two blocks away from UC Berkeley's Edwards Stadium.

A 21-year-old woman was walking near the intersection when the suspect stole a cellphone from her back pocket, police said. The suspect fled and the woman chased him.

Officers were able to apprehend the suspect near the intersection of Durant Avenue and Fulton Street, police said. He was arrested for robbery and the victim's cellphone was recovered.

The victim was not injured during the robbery, according to police. UC Berkeley police are reminding the campus community to keep electronic devices out of public view, as they are a popular robbery target.
