Pistol-Whip Robbery at Grizzly Peak Lookout

A couple parked at a lookout on Grizzly Peak Boulevard in Berkeley were robbed early Saturday, and the man was beaten with a gun. The couple were treated for face cuts at a local hospital, after having been stopped by police for a traffic violation.

A couple parked at a lookout on Grizzly Peak Boulevard were robbed at gunpoint, and the male victim was "beaten about the head with a handgun," UC Berkeley police said Monday.

After they left the scene of the robbery, they were stopped for a traffic violation by Kensington police, according to UC Berkeley police.

Both the male and female victims "suffered lacerations to the face," and Kensington police summoned an ambulance to take the victims to a local hospital for treatment, UC police said.

The couple had been parked about 2:50 a.m. Saturday enjoying the view from a UC signpost turnout with the window down on the driver's side, where the male was seated, police said.

Two males approached the car, and one of them beat the male victim about the head with a gun while yelling at him to hand over his money, according to police. The other robber opened the door and searched the male victim's pockets.

Descriptions of the suspects and their vehicle are included in the UC Berkeley crime alert below:
