Parking Officer Struck by "Boot"

Driver tried to dodge getting a locking device installed on the wheel of his car, instead got twice the trouble.

A driver trying to dodge a "boot" instead wound up grounded along with his car.

A Berkeley parking officer, working the 1700 block of Solano Avenue around 1 p.m., was attempting to afix a boot device onto the wheel of a car that had racked up multiple parking tickets when the owner jumped in and sped away, running over the officer's foot.

Before the officer could secure the device, the owner climbed behind the wheel and hit the accelerator. The boot came off, striking the officer and causing minor injuries.

Armed with a description of the car, Albany police found it and its driver at the intersection of Bayview Avenue and Carlson Boulevard in Richmond. The driver was arrested for suspicion of battery on a parking enforcement officer.

I'm sure the parking officer/official booter deserves some sympathy for the "minor injuries", but I've been looking through my pockets and desk drawers and simply can't find any....

I dislike parking meters, parking tickets, and (95% of the time) parking enforcement officers as much as the next citizen, but these are in place because the merchants and/or community organize and exert political pressure and demand them. The owner of this vehicle clearly was behaving beyond acceptable social norms (having managed to collect enough tickets to justify booting) and put the parking enforcement officer--who was just doing his/her job--at unnecessary risk. Can I make a suggestion to the public to help ameliorate this problem: Stop being so f---ing lazy! Disperse parking around business strips and public parks by not insisting on always parking right in front of said business or park. Be willing to park further away from your destination and walk a block or two, unless you are loading or unloading heavy sound equipment.

The name is weirdly spelled, but not this weird. It's Caffe, not Caffee. I've only typed these wordsRead More a thousand times.
