Off-Duty Cop Shoots Alameda Youth in Oakland

A San Francisco sheriff's deputy shot and wounded the 17-year-old Alameda resident in what police describe as an attempted robbery of the deputy and his girlfriend.

Bay City News Service—An off-duty San Francisco sheriff's deputy shot and wounded a 17-year-old boy who allegedly tried to rob the deputy and his girlfriend near Lake Merritt in Oakland early today (Monday), according to Oakland police.

The deputy and his girlfriend told police that they were in the 300 block of Van Buren Avenue in Oakland's Adams Point neighborhood at about 1:30 a.m. when the suspect approached them and demanded money at gunpoint, according to police.

Police said he believed his life and his girlfriend's life were being threatened so he discharged his firearm and struck the suspect, an Alameda resident whose name wasn't released.

The 17-year-old boy received medical attention at the scene and then was transported to a local hospital, where he is listed in stable condition, according to police.

The deputy sheriff and his girlfriend weren't harmed. Police said officers recovered a replica firearm at the scene.

Investigators said they believe the teenager was involved in at least two other robberies in the area shortly before the shooting.

Oakland police said anyone with information should contact their major crimes section at (510) 238-3821.

If he's from Alameda maybe he's the same person robbing people here as well. There's been several muggings lately.

this should be a lesson to the dumb teenager that we don't succeed by robbing people and being lazy! we succeed by working hard and being honest! even if it wasn't a police officer that shot him..maybe just a civilian, he deserved it! its not fair for someone to try and rob someone else simply because they're too damn lazy to make an honest living!
