Nonprofit's Truck Stolen in Berkeley – Public Help Asked

The recently acquired pickup truck of the nonprofit Urban Creeks Council was stolen overnight on Saturday night in North Berkeley, and the group is asking the public's help in returning it.

The Urban Creeks Council is appealing for help in locating its blue Ford pickup stolen from North Berkeley Saturday night or early Sunday morning.

"Without the UCC truck- our only vehicle- we will have to postpone projects and delay our restoration work," the nonprofit group says in one of several posts about the theft on its Facebook page

The 2005 blue F-250 pickup has the organization's name, "Urban Creeks Council," on the side. The license plate is 7U05789.

An ecologist for the group, Kristen Van Dam, said she parked the truck at Rose and Arch streets at 6 p.m. Saturday and that it was gone in the morning, the Bay Area News Group reported.

"We've had a lot of our stuff stolen and vandalized over the years, but this one stings more than most," the organization said on Facebook.

"Someone stole it from our neighborhood, and brazenly drove it around with our insignia all over it. Someone must have seen something- but they'll never know anything is amiss unless we get the word out. Please help us get our truck back."

Urban Creeks Council says its mission is "to preserve, protect and restore urban streams and riparian habitats." The organization has roots in Berkeley and Oakland.

The group announced their acquisition of the used truck in an Aug. 2 Facebook post with a photo:

"UCC staff and volunteer pose with our new-to-us UCC truck! This rig will carry gear for workdays, plants, and haul our 1,000-gallon water trailer. The best part? It's going to be biodiesel!"

Anyone with information about the missing truck can call Berkeley police at 510-981-5900
