No Bomb Found On UC Berkeley Campus After Tip Prompts Overnight Search

The emailed bomb threat tip was sent just before 1 p.m. Tuesday.

After police at the University of California at Berkeley received an emailed tip about a possible bomb on the campus Tuesday afternoon,
officers searched buildings overnight but found nothing suspicious, a UC
Berkeley police captain said.

The tip, which came in just before 1 p.m. Tuesday, stated that the sender had overheard two individuals talking about placing a bomb on campus, Capt. Margo Bennett said.

This morning, police gave school administrators the "all-clear" after no suspicious objects were found in searches conducted throughout the night, Bennett said.

UC Berkeley Vice Chancellor John Wilton sent a "CalMessage" to the campus community this morning stating that police searches had been completed at the main and Clark Kerr campuses, as well as UC properties adjacent to the campus.

Although no explosive was found, Bennett said, "We're very happy that the citizen in this case saw something ... and took the time to notify us of it."
