I think he mistook what you said for some of the racist GOP code words.

You mean, like 'Chicago'? :-) I'm glad we have people like Chris Matthews to parse for us what people REALLY mean. He must have tremendous gifts of insight!

There is a sign on the door that requests people to remove sunglasses, hats, covering hoods, etc for this very reason. It's not just a way to ease the employee's fears, but it's also polite for social interaction indoors. The description of the guy's clothing fit exactly the type that we would perceive as being a threat, regardless of race.

Yikes! I'm glad no one was hurt. This is just down the street from where I work, and I've been banking there for a few months since it's so close. All the staff are really nice!

Hey, a suspect was arrested... in Missouri: http://www.berkeleyside.com/2013/02/06/man-arrested-for-jan-6-armed-robbery-of-berkeley-bank/ Not clear why Berkeleyside is misreporting the robbery as having been on the 6th (it was on the 16th), but interesting that an individual was ID'ed, and then a connection was made.
