Man Who Ran From Police During Attempted Traffic Stop Found Hiding in Drain Pipe

Police tried to stop the suspicious vehicle in the area of Ashby Avenue and Seventh Street on Thursday night.

A man ran from police officers and hid in a drainage pipe after he was pulled over in Berkeley Thursday night, a police lieutenant said.
 
At 9:17 p.m. officers attempted to stop what they considered a suspicious vehicle near Ashby Avenue and Seventh Street, Lt. Dave Frankel said. The driver ran from the car prompting officers to chase him on foot, Frankel said.
 
The suspect ran behind a nearby Orchard Supply Hardware store on Ashby Avenue, he said. Police searched the area and found the man hiding in a drainage pipe, according to Frankel.
 
A gun and narcotics were also found during the incident, Frankel said.
