Man Stabbed with Nail File During Argument Over Spilled Coffee

Berkeley police arrested an Oakland man on suspicion of assault after he allegedly stabbed a man on Dane Street with a pocket knife nail file during an argument over spilled coffee.

Berkeley police responded to a report of a man brandishing a knife on Dane Street Tuesday night, and arrested Cleveland Allen, 58, on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. Allen allegedly stabbed his friend with the nail file part of a pocket knife during an argument over a spilled cup of coffee.

The victim, a 44-year-old Oakland man, claimed the two had been involved in an argument over Allen's spilled coffee when a fight broke out and Allen stabbed him with the nail file on his pocket knife.

Both men told police that they “have a history” of verbal arguments and physical fights. Berkeley Fire Department (BFD) personnel took the victim to a local trauma center where his injury was deemed non-life threatening. Allen was arrested and booked at the Berkeley City Jail.
