A man was found shot to death next to a car off Grizzly Peak Boulevard in Berkeley early Sunday, according to news reports.

UC Berkeley police are investigating the death. The man's body was found above the campus on Grizzly Peak between Centennial Drive and South Park Drive, according to Berkeleyside.

Campus police Lt. Alex Yao said police received numerous 911 calls about 5:38 a.m. reporting the casualty, Berkeleyside said.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, and police declined to release his identity pending notification of family, according to the San Francisco Chronicle

The Alameda County coroner's bureau told Patch that information about the man would have to come from UC police. Patch has asked campus police for information.

Berkeleyside said the man was not affiliated with UC Berkeley.

Part of Grizzly Peak remained closed much of the day.
