A 35-year-old man who allegedly exposed himself and committed a lewd act in front of two female students at a Cal dorm was captured by UC Berkeley police and booked on felony indecent exposure, campus police said Monday.

Police were dispatched about 11:09 p.m. on Nov. 27 to Unit 1 of Cheney Hall on the report of a man exposing himself in view of two female students, aged 17 and 18, police said in a crime alert.

The students "observed the male suspect standing outside of the glass lobby doors exposing his genitals and masturbating," according to police.

A description of the 6-foot 1-inch-tall, heavyset man with "a scruffy face" and wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt was dispatched to UC officers, who detained a suspect matching that description near Davidson Hall in Unit 2, police said.

"The suspect was positively identified by the victims and was arrested," according to campus police.

Anyone with information about the crimes is urged to call UC Berkeley police at 510-642-0472 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., and 510-642-6760 at all other times.
