High Winds Prompt Critical Fire Warning in East Bay Hills

The strong winds combined with dry conditions prompted the National Weather Service today to issue a "red flag warning" of critical fire danger in the East Bay Hills, the Diablo Ridge and North Bay Mountains.

By Alex Gronke

The dangerous combination of gusty offshore winds and dry brush prompted the National Weather Service to a issue a red flag warning for the East Bay hills, the Diablo Range and the North Bay Mountains beginning at 10 p.m. Monday through 8 a.m. Tuesday.

The weather service warns that that due to low humidity “any new ignitions will experience rapid fire growth.” Offshore wind speeds are expected to reach five to 10 miles per hour, with gusts reaching 25 mph.
